Say What: Prison Break Series Finale

by Sujoy on May 19, 2009

I had been thinking a lot to just let my frustrations out on this series. I was a big fan of Season 1 and Season 2. But the entire Sona-Panama chapter and then the Company general-Scylla-Christina-Triangle just made the drama escalate and the series’ level of creativity down the drain. But now that it has ended, I have some good memories of Prison Break – how Michael Socfield knows it all and applies every tactic with an evil smirk; how Linc is soooo dumb; how Alex Mahone and T-Bag are actually the show-stealers and above all- how unnecessary additions of Don Self, Company General and Christina Scofield makes me throw up (ok, I made that up..hehe). So, here it is; a tribute to Prison Break in the for of some screenshots of the Series Finale, served as a comic strip, with dialogues and situations made up by MY EVIL BRAIN. Don’t like it? Just yell at me in the comments section..And oh! We go character wise!!

Revisiting: Gulzar’s Aandhi (1975)

Aandhi [1975] Montage

With the result of the general elections been declared, and the UPA Sarkar acquiring a ‘Bahumat’, it certainly calls for a Bollywood treat and what better than Aandhi [1975].

Gulzar’s Aandhi could not have been more controversial. The subject matter evidently shows reflections of the lives of Indira and Feroz Gandhi, and it was released at a time when India was reeling under emergency (1975). But how could I have known; I was not born then. Watching Aandhi today in the year 2009, only brings me memories of the first time I heard the haunting melodies that this movie had to offer. Yes, I did watch this movie before but, never did I watch it with a mature understanding of Indian politics, the issues surrounding it and the sensibilities that this movie portrayed . But having watched it now, I can say Aandhi definitely sums up to a very compelling drama of a movie where political inclination and ego clashes between a man and a woman leads to a family’s disintegration. It echoes the feelings of Abhimaan, but with a political twist. [Continue Reading…]

IMAX Ticket for STAR TREK 2009

Star Trek Movie Still
After much anticipation, Is the new Star Trek movie actually any good?

YOU BET YOUR ARSE IT IS! My main reservation was whether or not I could buy Zachary Quinto’s portrayalof Spock and not just see a brooding Sylar. I’m happy to report after a few moments into the film all such thoughts vanished from my mind. In fact, I think it was a masterstroke in casting. To be honest the whole reimagining of the franchise was a breath of fresh air. Here’s a quick account of the Characters :-

Spock Zachary Quinto Star Trek

Spock – Undoubtedly Spock stole the show. This must have been a very welcome diversion for Quinto in allowing him to showcase his acting ability in a vessel other than Sylar. Great emphasis was placed on Spock’s struggle to accept his maternal human half. In fact the plot hangs on it! The portrayal of this icon of the Sci-Fi world feels like it has been handled with the reverence it deserves.

Separated At Birth – I

by Sujoy on May 3, 2009

in movies

Inspired by Memsaab’s Bollywood trivia section ‘Separated At Birth(SAB), as well as by the long forgotten ‘Separated At Birth’ column from Sunday Magazine (a weekly publication in the 90′s in India), this post brings together people who might have been born as twins/siblings in a parallel universe. But here on Planet Earth, they couldn’t have been more different (or alike!). I hope you get the idea. My first SAB post is dedicated to a highly regarded and acclaimed British actor and a ‘so-so’ regarded, not-so acclaimed actor from Tollywood. And yes, they even share a name.

In the Red corner, it’s Sir Derek George Jacobi- actor, director and has two knighthoods -Danish and British. [ More here] . And in the Blue corner, it’s George Baker- actor from Tollywood- Claim to fame: Chameli Memsaab(1975) co-starring Rakhi.  So you likey??
