it was a bit graphic...., like the burning of the eggs, that was nasty. I thought Wikus was played really well. At the start I thought he was just annoying but things really changed by for him, like his father-in-law giving permission for him to be chopped up whilst he standing right beside him with no remorse whatsoever. “I did not have sexual intercourse with a Prawn!” best line. hahahaha. I particularly liked the CGI of the ship just hanging over J’brg. Just lovely innit!

think this way ... you go to watch a sci-fi, who wants to see a slum full of scum .. n those ugly creatures fighting for food ... cat food ... eww. The weapons were awesome though they added some punch to the movie ... and the fight sequence, it was good ..

Exactly, and the decision if there should be a "guide to everything" is upto the filmmaker's choice. The ambiguity plays a role of its own to keep us engaged even after the movie watching is over.

Of course then, it is a subjective view which cannot be generalised for all audiences.

But for me, it certainly rocked, and for all those who have pronounced it as the scifi movie of the year. James Cameron is already sweating in Na'vi

Sujoy

Maybe I expected too much from the movie, not that it disappoints, I would agreeif you say that it falls under a less explored genre of alien sci-fi movies where you don't have a " guide to everything" with the movie or even preceding it.....!!!

I would say too much is left to the moviegoers' imagination which may or maynot make him curious about a sequel.

Hi Nrzz..here's what I have to say about it.

1. We are not at all sure about their technology. What exactly happened 20 yrs back is just summed up from a human point reported in those tiny news capsules. How it remains afloat might be not a fuel requirement but something else, yes unexplained, and that's why there is the prospective District 10.

2. They wouldn't have dumped it intentionally. Why they halted in J'berg in the first place, and what made them crash there, why were they so weak to begin with...all of these are loose ends and which do not necessarily mean that the film needs to explain all of it.

3. This basically has to do with the major concept that we have derived about Aliens after watching Starship Troopers and Predator movies. The prawns are not basically a violent race and act violently only when provoked. However, living in a slum, their social nature has been pushed to the other extreme, but then that is true in case of humans as well. The urge for them to take over earth is just a concept preached by Hollywood. No one is for sure about it that an alien who lands on earth, upon learning of inferior technology, would decide of ruling the earth instantly.
And there is the question of the food chain dependence as well. The cat-food thing is quite confusing.

It is because of all of this that I love District 9. It need not explain it all. It raises lots of questions and what ifs. And makes all of us think of possible answers without being absolutely sure about it. And that is indeed the beauty of true sci-fi, unlike those cube-powered Megatrons.

Neeraj Watched district 9 .
Am still looking for some aliensense !
1. How do u keep a space ship afloat without fuel for 20 yrs ?
2. If all they needed was some fluid to power the spaceship, why did they have to dump "their technology" all over "district 9" and then spend 20 yrs collecting it ?
3. If they have weapons as destructive as shown, wats stopping 1.5 million aliens from taking over earth and stop living like refugees!
