I need to watch Mani Sir's Kannathil.. I have heard so much about it, but haven't been able to get hold of the DVD..
Kite Runner is depressing, sad, miserable and ultimately uplifting.. It is so much filled with human emotions...

I didn t read the book first but after seeing this wonderfull movie, I simply couldn t resist the book. I took a day off to read it off .... coz I had to ! I loved every character in that movie. I am pretty sure that all of us DO find a bit ourselves in Amir (and if you dont ... you are being a hypocrite !). It made me to rethink my views about Afghanistan. I always thought it was a barbarian country and now I see how civilized it was once. I feel bad for what happened to the once beautiful country let alone the dreams of it's people. I really belive that all those who have loved this movie will also like a movie called "Kannathil Muthamittal" by the veteran director Mani Rathnam. It again deals with emotions of a happy child torn by war. It also made me cry like a baby in the end ... even though it was sort of a happy end ... Kite Runner comes only next !!!

It is a common occurrence in almost every book to movie adaptation. The world created by words and reader's imagination cannot be fully captured by a single mind's presented form [ however good that filmmaker is]. Even a three episode Lord of the Rings has left out on volumes of untold adventures, but still it is a classic.

I haven't read Kite Runner, and I do find my friends complaining about the omission of a lot of points from the book. I guess the time limit is indeed a bit of a big restriction to be able to play around with it.

Book is absolutely superb in every sense..I could actually see the characters when I read the book. Though the movie is good, it still does not touch many important points. Of course, there is limitation to how much one visually express in 90 minutes..they can not show each and every detail, but that exactly makes the book a wonderful read. I think it must have been a difficult movie to direct because the main characters are so intense and their lives are interwoven.
If I had not read the book, I think I would have never understood the movie the way I did now.
